An Explosion of Color
The male mandarin duck's head looks like a punk rocker's multicolored mohawk. Beneath his beady black eyes, fringed orange feathers splay across his dark purple chest. His bill is colored a striking hot pink and sits under an emerald green forehead. The orange sail is an elongated tertial feather.

Mandarin Drake Dance
The mandarin duck is a perching duck species native to the East Palearctic. It is medium-sized, at 41-49 cm long with a 65-75 cm wingspan. It is closely related to the North American wood duck, the only other member of the genus Aix.
